On Sunday, June 9, 2019 at 9:30 p.m., the Filarmonica della Scala, supported by the Main Partner UniCredit and the Sponsor Allianz, will present the seventh edition of the annual “Concerto per Milano”, the free of charge event in Piazza Duomo that transforms the heart of the city into a concert hall under the stars. On the orchestra's podium, as is traditional in recent years, is Riccardo Chailly who conducts Symphony No. 9 in E min. by Antonín Dvorák and a tribute to Nino Rota, one of the most original and prolific Italian composers of the twentieth century, in the fortieth of his death: the symphony of the Bohemian Dvorák, called "from the New World" for the inspiration to the American folklore and the rhythmic vitality that have made it among the most famous and surprising of the repertoire, is followed by the Suite from the ballet La Strada, the original movie by Federico Fellini (Oscar in 1957 for best foreign film), Risatine Maliziose and Galopp, excerpts from the soundtrack of the film Prova d'orchestra (1979). The relationship between Rota and Fellini produced masterpieces that over time have become portraits of the whole of Italy.
To Nino Rota, on this occasion, the Filarmonica della Scala and Riccardo Chailly dedicate a recording. It will be available from June 7 "The Fellini Album", published by Decca London, which collects the most significant musical pages of films that the world loves: Amarcord, 8 ½, La dolce vita, Il Casanova, I Clowns.
Rai Cultura broadcasts the Concerto per Milano live on Rai 5 in HD, directed by Patrizia Carmine, on the RaiPlay web portal and on Radio3. Thanks to RaiCom it is also broadcasted in Germany, France and French-speaking countries by Arte, in Greece, Latvia, Czech Republic, Slovenia, in Korea, North Africa and the Middle East (Mena countries), Japan and China. Increasingly appreciated by foreign audiences and spectators, the event is one of the most awaited international events, confirming the identity value of the initiative, the result of the synergy between the Filarmonica della Scala - an independent institution that, without drawing on public funds, plays an important cultural and social role - its partners and city institutions.
