The audience of Filarmonica della Scala knows that the trombone section is an astounding and versatile one: now it sings a velvety choir, now it launches the entire orchestra in an overwhelming fanfare. This concert is an opportunity to hear the solo trombone, in the hands of one of its most passionate ambassadors: the Dutch Jörgen van Rijen. After joining the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1997, van Rijen began to explore the full potential of his instrument, collaborating with some of the best contemporary composers and contributing to the creation of new repertoire, such as the concert by the forty-year-old composer Samy Moussa, dedicated to him. Along with van Rijen, the Spanish Gustavo Gimeno, Music Director of the Teatro Real in Madrid and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, makes his debut at La Scala.
