VIOLIN
BIOGRAPHY

Emmanuel Tjeknavorian is the new Music Director of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, following his appointment in February 2024. Before embarking on his career as a conductor, Tjeknavorian made himself known internationally as a violinist, performing in the most prestigious concert halls together with many musicians of our time. Antonio Stradivari (Cremona 1698) plays a violin, a generous loan from a patron of Beare's International Violin Society.

In addition to his work in Milan, in the 2024/25 season Tjeknavorian will make his conducting debut with SWR Symphonieorchester, Bremer Philharmoniker, Helsinki Philharmonic, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo and Antwerp Symphony. This season he will also return to conducting concerts with Gürzenich-Orchester Köln and Grazer Philharmoniker. With the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, he will appear at the prestigious KKL in Lucerne and will conduct the Ensemble Relefektor in a special concert at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

In previous seasons he conducted the Filarmonica della Scala, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the DR Symfoniorkestret in Copenhagen, the HR-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt, the Dresdner Philharmonie, the Wiener Symphoniker, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, the Philharmonie Zuidnederland, the Orchestre National d'Île-de-France, the Orchestra della Toscana, the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, the RTVE Symphony Orchestra and the Buckner Orchestra Linz. In addition, he conducted the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien in Johann Strauss's “Die Fledermaus” at the Grazer Musikverein. In the summer of 2024, Tjeknavorian took the podium at the Rheingau Musik Festival with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, the orchestra's first international appearance with its new musical director.

Emmanuel Tjeknavorian was awarded the prestigious Abbiati Prize of the National Association of Music Critics for Best Conductor in 2024, was the winner of the OPUS Klassik Award and has published numerous recordings both as a violinist and as a conductor. Since 2017 he has been hosting a monthly radio program, “Der Klassik-Tjek”, in Vienna on Radio Klassik Stephansdom, where he talks about classical music with famous personalities linked to other fields, showing his passion for making music accessible to an ever wider audience.

He is involved in numerous projects to support young musicians and, for several years, he has established a close collaboration with the Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie, the most important ensemble of German music schools.
